Additional Information
Councillor David Acton was appointed Chairman of the Authority for the 2011/12 municipal year on 8th September, and has been a Member of the Authority since 2008.
Councillor Acton is a Councillor for Trafford MBC, and has served as Leader for seven years, from 1997 to 2004 and is currently Leader of the Labour Group in Trafford. Prior to this Councillor Acton spent his entire working life in industry. He worked for 20 years on the shop floor at GEC in Trafford Park and before that at the former Irlam steel works.
Councillor David has two daughters and four grandchildren, who he dotes on and who keep him busy in his spare time, but when not playing with his grandchildren he makes time to follow sports, he enjoys football, cricket and playing golf.
On his appointment “I am really pleased to be elected Chairman. There are major challenges, particularly government cuts which mean the Service has to continue to modernise - although it has come far in recent years - but new technologies open up new ways of working. I feel strongly about the service engaging more with the local community and am very keen to pursue that in a big way. It’s an exciting new period of my life and I want to make a difference with all the staff and Fire Authority working together.”
